Artist in Residence Anna Dixon-Smith

20th -22nd September

Anna Dixon-Smith

Anna Dixon-Smith is a Suffolk based artist who is inspired by the countryside and nature around where she lives.  Her work divides into two main genres: still life oil paintings, which she does in her studio at home, using much loved crockery from the house paired with seasonal flowers gathered from her garden or the hedgerow; And, secondly, her energetic life drawings, often depicting multiple dancers and acrobats, drawn from moving figures.

Anna’s oil paintings for the Autumn Boule-in Fete focuses on still life and is an exciting opportunity to explore and experiment using an array of eclectic domestic French jugs, jars and objets sourced by le Boule-in.   These are set off with glorious jewel coloured flowers from her garden.

These paintings are not intended as a replica of the original, but more a celebration of colour, shape and texture.  A chance to acknowledge the combination of nature and beautiful domestic objects together.   Anna loves the idea that these objects, which have been passed from one person to another through the generations, are imbued with a history.  By painting them she is celebrating the role they played in the past and enjoying their relevance as beautiful objects today.

Anna Dixon-Smith originally studied Sculpture at St Martins School of Art, then completed a BA in Fine Art at Ipswich School of Art.  She regularly attends the Royal Drawing School in London for life drawing.

Before marrying  moving to Suffolk and becoming a full time artist, Anna worked as a fashion journalist and stylist, and subsequently as a fashion show producer.

Swing in the Autumn

Charity Concert in aid of MIND

4th October // 7pm

Receiving rave reviews during their 1st UK tour we are thrilled that Threebop will commence their second tour at The Boule-in.

Three of London’s vibrant young jazz voices come together to create their own take on vocal jazz harmony singing. Inspired by the music of bebop legends and the vocalese tradition, Ella Hohnen-Ford, Rosina Bullen and Luca Manning perform their own arrangements with tight vocal harmonies and improvisation.

Each of these vocalists bring their own personality and distinct sound to the music, culminating in a refreshing and engaging performance. Their resident rhythm section features some of the most in demand young players on the scene. David Swan, Will Sach and Boz Martin-Jones provide an interactive and spontaneous energy to the Threebop sound.

Here you’ll find a perfectly on trend, highly appealing selection of French decorative antiques. With a focus on the easy to live with, beautiful and affordable…curated by a charming husband and wife team.  It’s ideal gifting territory – self gifting included!
